Venom Mob Film Club presents Shogun Assassin

Shogun Assassin (Robert Houston, 1980) 90m

£4 (£5 on the door) | £10 with delicious vegan ramen

After being framed for disloyalty to his clan lord, disgraced ronin Itto Ogami (with three-year-old son Daigoro in tow) travels medieval Japan as the most skilled samurai-for-hire bar none. But as the treachery and obstacles in his latest mission quickly pile up, Ogami is forced to handle it the only way he knows how.

Shogun Assassin is a dubbed, re-scored re-edit of the first two Lone Wolf and Cub films (based on the long-running Kozure Ōkami manga), using 12 minutes of Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance (Kenji Misumi, 1972) and most of Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart at the River Styx (Kenji Misumi, 1972). It's become an ageless cult sensation in its own right: a crazed thrill-ride in a booby-trapped baby cart, propelled on arterial spray, hurtling gleefully to nowhere.

Venom Mob Film Club is a new occasional film club based in the Flying Duck, Glasgow.

Matchbox Cineclub screen outcasts, orphans and outliers, mostly in CCA Glasgow.
