PPA Scotland's Magazine Stories is a brand new monthly interview series that offers the chance to hear from the cream of the magazine media industry. From editors to designers, commercial directors to CEOs, we'll be hearing about their paths to the top, as well as getting to grips with their most important breaks, the moments that didn't go to plan and what they've learned along the way. We'll be hearing behind-the-scenes stories from some of the world's best storytellers
Following the interview, the monthly gathering will also offer a chance to grab a drink, network and catch up.
Whether you're trying to break into the industry, wondering how to take your next step up the ladder, leading an organisation yourself - or would just like to hear how your favourite magazines come together - this event is the place to be for all magazine lovers.
Our first star guest for Magazine Stories will be the award-winning editor of The Big Issue, Paul McNamee...
Paul McNamee was appointed UK editor of The Big Issue in summer 2011, the first time The Big Issue had a single editor across all national and regional and online editions.
He started out on local newspapers in Northern Ireland, before co-founding Irish music magazine Blank with Colin Murray. He moved to the NME in London and following four years there he began working for a number of newspapers and magazines, amongst them the Daily Mirror, The Guardian and The Irish Times.
He has been named Magazine Editor of the Year three times by PPA Scotland and was named British Editor of The Year in 2013 and 2016 by the BSME (British Society of Magazine Editors). He is a regular voice on BBC radio, particularly in Scotland. From 2017-2018 he was the Chair of PPA Scotland.
